Dartmouth & District Pipe Band were named the the North American Pipe Band Champions for Grade 4 at the Glengarry Highland Games on Saturday.
"I’m incredibly proud of this crew," said Pipe Major Blaise Theriault. "They worked hard all year and gave it their all on the field yesterday to take home the Grade 4 North American Championship title."
The games, held in Maxville, Ontario, are a two-day event consisting of pipers, drummers, fiddlers, dancers and heavyweight competitions. There was a strong East Coast showing this year with Cape Breton University Pipe Band also taking 1st in the Grade 5 band competition.
Other East Coast band placings were:
Grade 1 78th Highlanders Halifax Citadel (3rd overall)
Grade 3 Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew (2nd overall)
Grade 3 College of Piping, Summerside (3rd overall)
Grade 5 Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew (3rd overall)
The Grade 5 Dartmouth & District and College of Piping bands also competed. In total, there were over 50 bands vying for the top prizes.
